Many times the children that come to Safe Harbor are fearful and alone. They are given love and nurturing by our professional staff whose first priority is to provide them with a safe, warm place to stay as well as food, clothing, and medical care. It is only then that our therapists can begin the work of helping to heal wounds that aren't as readily seen.

Safe Place
Safe Place is a national program coordinated locally by Safe Harbor Children's Shelter. An outreach program designed to reach youth in the early stages of crisis, Safe Place works by creating a network of Safe Places - business and public locations where youth can go when they feel that they are in trouble. The youth can then be connected to Safe Harbor for further services.

Hamer House
The Hamer House, named in honor of Shelter founders Susan and Bob Hamer, is the newest addition to the Safe Harbor family of services. Located directly in back of the Shelter, at 2115 Atlanta Avenue, this small home provides some much needed additional space. The Hamer House is home to a complete computer lab for residents to use in numerous ways including homework, special projects, and computer instruction.

Additionally, the house is used by our Safe Place program, board meetings, and therapeutic services. Perhaps most important of all is the large shaded yard and covered carport that provides an ideal location for activities of all kinds.
